Planet Alpha 31

This definitely got my vote! Keep up the great work Adrian!

Thanks a bunch Syntaks!
It’s been in Greenlight for 4 days now and I must admit I still don’t fully understand the process. From the stats I think it’s doing well but atm feels a bit like to much of a popularity contest, where number of visitors and likes play a huge role.
But I have no idea how long it usually takes for a game to be greenlight or how many Yes are enough  I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

You were actually the first person I’ve ever voted for, hah! I don’t follow the greenlight stuff at all really. I don’t even really know what you stand to gain from being greenlight! I just thought ok, he deserves a vote, so he gets a vote, whatever that means!

But man, I wouldn’t sweat it too much. You got an awesome game going on (at least it looks awesome – I’m sure it plays awesome too.)

Unfortunately being greenlit is currently the only way to self-publish your game on Steam. They know the system is broken and they said it’s gonna change but until then every self published game will have to go through the GreenLight process.
The alternative is to have your game published on steam by a company with a publishing account but that kind of defeats the purpose of digital distribution - cutting out the middleman.

Hello friends,
Planet Alpha 31 made it in top 100 Steam Greenlight games after just 5 days of being up!

It’s pretty awesome and I would like to thank for their support.

However the greenlight fight is far from over so if you haven’t done it yet, check my game and vote Yes if you like it.

Hi all,
Casual Connect Singapore 2015 and the Indie Prize event were a blast!
Planet Alpha 31 took home 3 trophies during the Indie Prize Awards event for Best in Show - Critic’s Choice, Most Promising Game in Development and Best Game Art.

The game had its first public hands-on demo during the Casual Connect Asia event held in Singapore when for 3 days visitors got the to try the not so casual game.
With an average play time of 12 minutes the game was played by more than 120 people from casual to hard core gamers, 80% completing the challenging demo level.
The following Indie Prize Awards event confirmed the success that the still in development platformer had with the audience, being awarded three trophies for Best in Show - Critic’s Choice, Most Promising Game in Development and Best Game Art.

Hello friends,
I wrote a small article about the experience I had at Casual Connect Asia where Planet Alpha 31 was part of the Indie Prize Showcase program.

It shares some thoughts and some stats(including a few that surprised me) and I hope it will determine more developers to attend these kind of events.

Hi there,
I recorded a sneak peek video from the pre-alpha build that you can watch here:

Hi,
concerning post from 08-08-2014, 08:52 AM about pushing / dragging objects:
I know that’s a pretty old post, and don’t know your current status of moveable objects,
but you could use the capsule for the physics but rotate the mesh as subobject using the tangent of the floor (getting by raycast).
Physic wouldn’t be accurate but the object would rotate corresponding to floor.

Avoiding jitter effect and edge problems: Using two ray cast, front and back and interpolate and smooth the rotation states.

Maybe that helps.

Cheers

Hello all,
I’m excited to partner with SideFX and bring Planet Alpha 31 to The Houdini Booth at the Media Indie Exchange G.
The event takes place during SIGGRAPH 2015 between 9-13 August, Los Angeles Convention Center.

Houdini 3D Animation Tools, together with Unreal Engine 4, is a key component in the production pipeline for Planet Alpha 31, enabling a fast and flexible development.

@Dwarfmine, thanks for the suggestion. I ended up using characters for movable objects - when you pull/push them they get instructed to move in the required direction. Works fine, the physics are stable and predictable.

Hello friends,
After 5 days of intense playtest, the 2nd public hands-on demo for Planet Alpha 31 is over.

You can read a small article about the event here:

The game was available for visitors at The Houdini Booth during The Media Indie Exchange and also made a presence for a few hours at Intel’s booth - both happening at SIGGRAPH 2015.

In short:

  • Around 200 people played the game
  • Individual playtime between 5 and 10 minutes
  • At least 4 people completed both available levels
  • Almost even split between genders and age

Hi all,
It is now easier than ever to follow the development of Planet Alpha 31.
Besides this awesome forum thread there’s also a freshly re-designed Website, a new Tumblr Devblog and a new Channel.

Bellow is a list with all the places you can find Planet Alpha 31:

Hello,
Not much to show in terms of actual development since the business side took priority these days.
However that part went great and now I can announce partnering with Danish investment company CAPNOVA to develop Planet Alpha 31 to its true potential.
