Pickup seashell and listen in one ear...

I am trying to achieve a game mechanic where you can pick up a seashell like object and then listen to the noise it makes when you place it next to your ear. I can achieve this other than the fact that i hear the sound in both ears when I place it next to one ear. The 3D sound works and I can track the movement of the sound in 3D space - there just isn’t any sound occlusion for the head or differentiation of volume for the proximity of each ear to the sound…

Any thoughts much appreciated…

I don’t believe the audio spatialization is sophisticated enough for this use case.

What you can do is to create two distinct audio files with their respective left and right channels muted (you can use Audacity for that), then depending on the side of the virtual head closer to the shell, play the proper one. This will simulate the sound being heard only through the ear on that side.
