Performance help for a large terrain

Hey all :slight_smile:

I’m looking for pointers and advice on the best way to do my landscape on a large terrain, the terrain will be 8129x8129
I’ve initially followed the splat map route, starting with 3 base textures but it runs poorly and that’s without anything else done, it looks good but runs poor.

So can i optimise this way or is there another route best taken for larger terrains ?

You should consider using world composition with appropriate level LODs and split your terrain into something like 9-16 separate levels.

Thank you Deathrey, any feedback on the use of a splat map ? I’m using it for my terrains 3 base materials, then painting the rest by hand, is there a better way ?
