I just upgraded to a capable computer from an old Macbook, and I'm excited about using the path tracer for the first time! I've already faced some issues though due to having an AMD Radeon graphics card and have gone through some of the solutions on the forum, and I understand they will eventually be solved in coming updates.
I've noticed however that the path tracer seems to function properly when I load any of the two demo scenes, but crashes / takes hours to render whenever I load any of my own, or even when I start a new project with empty settings and import material-less geometry from ArchiCAD. The Lakehouse demo is particularly heavy on detail, vegetation, etc, which makes me think it's not an issue with complex geometry or too many objects in the scene. Is there a reason for this?
Attached demo scene took less than 2 minutes to render at 2000x3000, and my own simple scene took 30 minutes at 1920x1080.
Thanks!
Hello ,
Thank you for posting in the community and your findings with Path Tracer. We are aware of issues with AMD card and are working on addressing them where possible.
It does seem strange that it takes much longer for you but it could be due to something specific such as the number of elements visible in the scene graph but we would need to take a look at your files to better respond.
Here are some things to try:
- Change the Collapse method to collapse by material if using keep hierarchy
- Turning the Quality Effects to Low before exporting?
If you could contact us directly by reporting a bug and provide your scenes that would help investigate:

Hi, thank you for the reply.
I've figured out that in previous scenes I've made, which are adjusted for the raster-engine, a curtain material seems to be the cause of many crashes, since it's based on a translucent material with an opacity mask for subtle transparency. This seems a bit too heavy for the Path Tracer to handle for now. I will also review the project from the picture above based on your advice. In some cases, I've been able to export scenes which would previously crash thanks to the tiled render option as well.
I've since tried to switch objects / materials on and off throughout other projects, to find out the limitations of the PT on my system, and have been able to produce a few decent renders. I'm looking forward to improvements in performance in coming updates!

Hello ,
Thank you for the follow-up and glad to hear you were able to identify the crashing material. I will try to document this bug and if you haven't done so already please submit a bug report so we can make sure to investigate properly and allow us to address them where possible.
Kind regards,
Vincent B.
