Particle Emitters & Line trace

Guys lemme know if this is possible or if I am off trail a bit.

I currently have line trace setup on my guns…in this case two guns since doing some vr prototyping on the vive. This all works fine since i was originally going with a machine gun type game.

Now i am wondering if a space pulse type weapon would be better which then means there would be a visible projectile of light basically. A good example would maybe be a star wars like weapon…so to the question.

Is there a way to generate a particle emitter to follow the line trace as the bullet in a sense, or should i go the path of generating the object at the point of the gun when firing and literally have a object as my bullet instead of the line trace.

This is a good question. For me, it depends on the look you’re going for.

If it’s meant be slower, like a rocket launcher, or it’s slow enough where people can dodge it if skilled enough, then I would say make it a projectile.

If it’s meant to be really fast, like the laser shots in the standard laser rifle in Star Wars Battlefront, where you see the light pulse in the air traveling to a target, but it’s so fast, it might as well be a tracer round from a machine gun in modern times, and people shouldn’t be able to dodge it, then make it an instant hit with a ray trace.
