I just used one from the engine content folder, not sure which one. What does your video file look like? The video should have the left eye at the top and the right eye at the bottom instead of side by side.
The video I have is just simply a video. It’s not in any sort of 3D format. .
That is fine you can and should use a simple video in the MP4 format. Do you have something specific that is not working?
What I meant by the format is that There’s no split screen format(left eye on top and right eye on bottom). It’s a simple 2D video. If that is fine, then the problem is the material is literally left eye top and right eye bottom.
Okay, it sounds like I misunderstood what you were asking. I thought you were asking if the video file needed to be in a unique 3D format, IE it has some meta data in it that lets whatever video player you are using know it is a 3D video. So when I stated you should be fine, it was about that. However, with your clarification, I know better understand what you are asking so I have put togther an image of what your video should look like and attached it below.
Top Over Bottom Video Format
For this format, all you need to do is put the Left or Right eye at the top and then the opposite eye on the bottom. If the images look revered when viewed then just swap the inputs in the Material and the images will reverse.
Side By Side Video Format
The Top Over Bottom format is the one that you will need to use with the Material that I posted on Friday. Please, let me know if have any more questions or need any more help.
Cheers-
Sam
Hi Again Sam!
Soo I managed to have another idea at hand… Soo I have a sort of billboard cutout of a person on a plane. I want to make that plane stereoscopic. Is there a way to do this? I’ve tried to apply the 360 spherical technique, but doesn’t quite work right.
Sorry for the late reply I was out of town for the holiday break, taking a much-needed disconnect from work and all my devices. In theory, you should be able to get this working using the Top Over Bottom Material setup I post above. While I have not tried this out on a billboard cut out yet, it should work as this same thing was done for the Insurgent VR UE4 demo. Here is a video that shows off the demo. However, I could only find it in 2D on Youtube.
The only thing that you might run into is finding the right distance to place the billboard from the camera. Too close and the effect will break down, too far away and all sense of depth and stereo will be lost. I have not tried this for myself so I unfortunately can not give you any solid things to try and do. However, this is the next area that I will be looking into. If I do find anything out, I will be sure to post it. In the meantime, if you have any more questions or need some help, please post back, and I will see what I can do to help.
Hi Sam,
i don´t know where to contact you, so i try it here… i do use the stereo panoramic output plugin and everything went fine in 4.13… but now i want to use 4.14 and get a dark picture out of it… how to solve it, when it is too dark. i tried it with auto exposure, but no luck. it stays a way to dark… only uses my point light, but no ambient light and so on.
Did you come to this error too and how did you solve it? i don´t use fast forward shading… Thanx for help.
With the help of I was able to get Top Over Bottom video working using the the following shader setup.

Using this Material and switching the U and V values worked for me with my side by side stereoscopic video playback, 3840 x 2160 30 fps. I made a quick sphere and flipped the normals so i didn’t have to make the material 2 sided. Getting 90+ fps in UE4 4.15 on Oculus. Will test on a Galaxy 6 Gear VR in the next few days and will report back if something unexpected happens
ya ya…(claims and promises)
Hi, How would you do it for 180 side by side stereoscopic video playback. Thanks
I have a top over bottom 360 panoramic video that I tried using with this material, and noticed some issues. I had to select un mirror v in the texture coordinate nodes in order for it to look right, but when I do that I’m getting a subtle horizontal slice through the center of the image. I am using the static mesh supplied from this tutorial: https://docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Platforms/VR/StereoPanoramicCapture/
I have a 4096x4096 top over bottom image:
and when using the quoted material i get this horizontal slice(note the tree and the pole in the image):
Any advice on how to fix this? I have been messing with u and v values and other settings and I’m having no luck.
It is a little hard to see but it looks like this is an artifact from the camera being to close to the object that it is trying to capture. The reason for this is due to the technique used to capture the images. You can read more about this using the following link.

The way that I would fix this would be to just use the healing brush in Photoshop or just manually paint over them.
