Overwatch map - Chaouen

UPDATE: Here are some progress that I made on my Overwatch map. I added more modular buildings to test how it looks, I have changed the textures. This one I did it on ZBrush, but it’s not gonna be a final one. I added my first modular doors, they are with the correct scale. I’m gonna resize all the buildings and the map in order to fit the doors scale this next week. I shall be doing more doors but my next step is to fix the scaling problem. Next week I’ll show you more…

UPDATE: Here are some progress that I made on my Overwatch map. I added some modular building to test how it looks like with a fast plaster texture (these texture are not gonna be the final ones, they are only just for a tileable test).
I’ll be showing more next week…

I have started a big project that consists in building a map using the Overwatch style.
The map is a control point map, so it’s symmetric. It is inspired by the blue city of Chefchaouen in Morocco. Here is what I have already done.

Awesome! Would love to know more about how you did this

UPDATE: Here are some progress that I made on my Overwatch map. It has new doors, and I had to change the roof tiles in order to be accurate with the style of Overwatch. I changed the scale of course, now I think it will be fine and I had another change on one part of the map in order to have better gameplay in the future. The corridor at the beginning that leads to the lounge had to be change because you could be spawn killing for quite far away.

This next week I will be starting to model the weapon and replace the blocked one with the final.

UPDATE: Here is the progress from this week. I created a weapon for the environment. The teacher asked us to create a weapon for the environment. So I took this week for that. The weapon and environment themes do not match, but I still wanted to create a steampunk version of the Junkrat’s frag laucher. Here is my attept…

UPDATE: Here is the progress from this week. In this week I have focused on fixing the gun’s textures in order to be more accurate to the style of Overwatch and I created 4 new modular assets.
The other thing that I’ve been working on was the lighting of the environment by adding a PostProcessVolume and a bit of fog.

Very welcome friend

UPDATE: Here is the progress from this week. I have been creating modular stairs for my map. Some of them were made on ZBrush and are fully textured, the other ones have a fast texture that are just for testing the tileable. And that’s all for now.

PS: My weapon is on Artstation, I’m gonna leave a link here down below. Leave it a like, comment or share. I would apreciate alot!

A Junkrat main who likes Ilios, I see?

This looks very nice. It’s great to see the progress from blocking out to building meshes to starting to detail things in. Thanks for taking the time to share!

Thank you very much! Actually I’m not a big fan of Junkrat. I just like his weapon design so I took the chance to make a new version of it! About the map, yes, Illios helped me a little bit as reference on how to build my map, knowing that Santorini and Chefchaouen look similiar.

UPDATE: Here is another changes I have done on my project. I have finished the modular assets and created the second half of the map. I had some minor changes on the left side and added a long wall with tiles. This next week I will start to create the stylized textures for the walls and floor.

Hey @Mawgush,

Love the updates you’ve been giving. You’re doing a terrific job!
Do you have any inspiration for this project or are you going more by your imagination?

Also, gotta say the tiny pathways and all the hiding spots make this map terrifying to play on potentially. Can’t wait :joy:

PS: Happy new year! Hope to see more of your map soon friend.

Thank you very much but I’m following references from the city of Chefchaouen and I’m copying some of the things of it. U have alot of references in Pureref. About the map design I had to follow some of other game’s maps in order to create mine. I tried not to do it that big because it can take alot of time. I still have 3 months left to its completion.

UPDATE: Here is more progress from my work. As I promised for this week I have started with tileable texturing. I have 6 examples but I’ll be doing more for the next week. Some of these textures are going to be combined with vertex painting which I’m going to start tomorrow.
