'Override' - Environment Design & Lighting | Unreal EMEA World Building Fellowship

This work was done as part of my course at the ‘Unreal Fellowship World Building Program - Winter 2023’ hosted by Epic Games. This was a three-week intensive live-training program where Epic had 100 of us artists put together with Mentors, Instructors and Epic’s Technical Artists mainly focusing on the World Building tools in UE5.
While the program’s intent is to bring artists together and learn collaboratively, we were ultimately given a task to come up with a world in the same three weeks. Each of us had to roll a dice that would generate random numbers corresponding to different scenarios of a scene setup (more info down below). This brings randomness and uniqueness to each of our creations. The setup that’s in my work is purely on basis of that.

Throughout the course of three weeks, there would be several live training sessions with each one covering a major skillset/tool within the Engine. Along with the training sessions, we also had guest lectures (many talented Unreal folks presenting their journies and what they do with Unreal). We would also have sessions live with Epic’s Technical Artists, where we could go one to one and go about all things Unreal wrt the project.

It was an amazing experience, nonetheless. I would like to sincerely thank the whole Epic team - the Managers, Instructors, TAs, Guest Speakers and ofc, all the fellow participants.

Hello @VMax_RPR, I hope you’re doing well. Thank you for sharing your impressive environmental design, ‘Override,’ with us in the forums. The attached screenshots are absolutely stunning, and the video was a truly captivating experience that I enjoyed from start to finish! I was curious, what editing software did you use to achieve such dazzling effects and transitions? :star_struck:

Hey Zez, thanks a lot!
I used After Effects for editing and CC and mostly Video copilot’s twitch plugin for my transitions.

Hi there @VMax_RPR,

Hope you’re having a great week so far!

The environment, lighting, storytelling, and music are all obviously insanely well done. But I have to give props for the video editing as well! The colorizing, slow zooms, and movements to the music made the video feel engaging and dynamic. The video experience is a masterpiece of a ton of talent being put into one singular project.

Brilliant work and thank you so much for sharing!

The pleasure is all mine! You have an evident mastery of Adobe After Effects; I wish I had dedicated myself to learning that editing software instead of Sony Vegas when I started my journey into video editing. It seems like you can do so much more with After Effects than Sony Vegas; it may be time for me to consider switching software. I also need to look into “Video copilot’s twitch plugins,” as I’ve never heard of this transition software before! Thank you for the prompt response, and I hope we get to see more of your incredible creations soon.

Glad you liked it! I was a video editor before my experience with Unreal. Blending both of my major skillset, I guess.
