offcamera lightshaft bloom washes out exposure

Is there any way to prevent lightshaft bloom from creating this autoexposure thing when slightly out of screen? I have autoexposure off, and none of the lightshaft bloom settings affect this white flare that occurs.

am noob so could be missing something basic…
