odd overlay texture when testing game

when i build my level it looks wonderful however when i test the game some sprites that i have sent to the back ground apear at the front, some have an overlay texture effect and some are invisible only until my character walks infront of it. its at this point that my character has an overlay effect. whats happening? see attachments

sounds like a translucency sorting problem. try checking ProjectSettings > Rendering > Translucency, and change it from SortByDistance to SortAlongAxis.
