Occlusion Culling with Foliage (Trees)

Is it possible to get painted foliage such as Trees or rocks to be occluded (by other foliage)?

I’ve been looking into this for a while but I can’t find a reliable answer.

I think it isn’t working because foliage is Instanced (theres a feature request to get occlusion culling working with instanced meshes), however the LOD works per Instance so I’m somewhat confused.
Also it reads like it should work with HISM which apparently was introduced to foliage with 4.8 or something. I’ve been checking out the Kite Demo, usingr.visualizeoccludedprimitives it looks like the trees are occluded but even if shown otherwise, they are still Rendered.
