Summary
Since the UEFN 32.00 update, we have been facing a serious issue in our Guardians Evolution project, which relies on NPCs (mobs) configured with a Character Definition linked to a Behavior created in Verse, exposed as Editable for quick adjustments.
It seems that the reference path for the NPC Spawner was altered, introducing new redirects for NPCs.
The path changed from:
“/BRCosmetics/Athena/Items/Cosmetics/Characters/CID_013_Athena_Commando_F.CID_013_Athena_Commando_F”
To:
“/Game/Athena/Items/Cosmetics/Characters/CID_013_Athena_Commando_F.CID_013_Athena_Commando_F”
Now, whenever we try to launch a session, we receive the error “Missing Character Modifier!” We’ve noticed that the Character Modifier settings in the NPC device in the world are automatically reset, as if cleared, preventing the project from validating, launching a new session, or publishing updates—something we’ve needed to do since November 2nd.
Our hypothesis is that the new redirects aren’t being applied correctly in projects that already referenced old paths, creating a conflict with version 32.00.
Solution Attempts To resolve this issue, we’ve already tried:
Reverting the project to previous snapshots.
Deleting and repositioning NPC Spawners in the world.
Unfortunately, none of these attempts were successful, and the error persists.
We’re reaching out to see if anyone has encountered this issue and knows of a solution or workaround and if Epic has any plans for a fix. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Steps to Reproduce
Open a project in UEFN that was created before version 32.00.
Create a Verse behavior and set it in the Character Definition, exposing attributes as editable.
Attempt to launch a session.
Observe the error “Missing Character Modifier!” that occurs when trying to launch the session.
Go to the NPC device settings in the world and verify if the Character Modifier settings have been reset (cleared).
Expected Result
The project should be able to successfully launch a session with all NPCs correctly configured, with Character Definitions retaining the applied settings without resetting.
No “Missing Character Modifier!” error should occur.
Observed Result
Each time we attempt to launch a session, the “Missing Character Modifier!” error appears, halting the process.
The Character Modifier settings in the NPC device within the world automatically reset to a blank state, preventing the project from validating and launching a session.
None of the attempted fixes resolve the issue; the error persists, making it impossible to publish updates or conduct new tests.
