Hi I am a VFX artists and have barely dabbled in Unreal over the last few years, so I am very much a beginner to Unreal.
I am trying to get VIVE TRACKER 3.0 to control/parent to Unreal camera/object
In my setup, I’m not using a VIVE headset (HMD) or controllers.
Hardware/Software I’m using :
2 x VIVE Base Stations 2.0
1 x VIVE Tracker 3.0
UNREAL (4.25.4)
STEAMVR API (V020)
SteamVR API plugin inside of Unreal is activated.
I do not have this setup with me, its at a friends house and we plan to meet up again later this week with any new knowledge. I just noticed we did not have the latest Unreal installed, so that will be our first step.
I know the base stations and tracker are seemingly working. when the tracker is moved around, SteamVR shows both base stations come alive/active as a result of the sensed motion from the tracker. There was also a popup over the tracker icon in SteamVR, saying its is being tracked when moved.
My next step is to now be able to parent a cube/anything to the tracker so that I can see it’s movement in Unreal. I’ve followed a few tutorials and have had no luck in achieving this. This is the most “current” tutorial I can find that uses the HW I’ve called out above:: How To Use HTC Vive Tracker Without HMD For Unreal Engine - YouTube
I’ve built the blueprint he recommends however I’m still left wiggling a tracker after I hit play in Unreal but nothing happens. I’ve also followed along with various other tutorials and documents but hit roadblocks as what seems a result in updated UI (certain BP node connections don’t match what I see in Unreal) Have also tested a bunch of other stuff, tried various options here and there, and still nothing seems to be tracked.
What Is the best way to test that Unreal is communicating with the Tracker/Base Stations in the first place? In the linked tutorial you set the tracker to the preset “Special 1”, not sure why. But I have no clue or idea if the tracker info is actually being passed or communicating with Unreal at all in the first place. There doesn’t seem to be any step to see or actual pick or pair the tracker HW to Unreal, to confirm this.
I’m not sure where the best place to start is with troubleshooting this and welcome any suggestions and help!
