Niagara VS Notch

Does anyone have experience both in UE4 Niagara as well as Notch ( https://www.notch.one/ ) ?

Can you provide some comparisons, pros and cons, strength and weaknesses of both?

I’m not sure what you’re really trying to compare, one is an effects system in UE4 and one is a completely different program by itself.

Notch is an effects system.

Its just like comparing Houdini vs Niagara.

Notch is something like Houdini.

Or i will rephrase my question to be more specific: To do interactive LED walls, which program is better suited for it, Niagara or Notch?

Thats like saying which do you make a game with, unreal engine or photoshop, notch is a video vfx tool, for videos. You can use it on a ue4 video, but not in ue4.

I think they are similar with regards to VFX. I am wondering the same thing as well because I am an interactive developer and when it comes to real-time effects both are fantastic. I think they both work for interactive LED walls. It all depends on what inputs you require for interactivity to drive the VFX. Unreal has some inputs as does Notch but if you are using something out of the ordinary like a sensor that measures the humidity in the air through an Arduino then you would need an intermediary to patch to pass the data from the sensor to both systems such as OSC for example. In the end, both are great tools for creating stunning visuals.

I’d say it depends on the complexity of your interactive and the look you are going for. Notch is really easy to get something to look pretty good and has some good built-in tools for interactivity (like using kinect, blob tracking, NVIDIA AR Skeleton tracking). Unreal, especially with UE5 feels practically limitless with what you can accomplish, but it will likely be more involved to get it up and running.

In short - Your headroom is probably higher on UE but Notch can get you something that looks pretty stunning much easier.
