Niagara Light Renderer option does not light Niagara fluids

Trying to get a few nigara points moving through a volume (niagara fluids) to be lit up by those niagara points. Unfortunately, after adding the “Light Renderer” option it does not light the fluids. Sure, I’ve gotten as far as lighting a surface with it, but the niagara fluids object is not being lit from the particles. I’m using 5.4.4
Can anyone shed some light on this? Is this something that going up to 5.5 will make it possible.? Or is there something in the niagara fluids gas emitter shader that I’d need to add to help get the Light Renderer from my particles to lit the volume?
