Next Round Fails to Load and Session Disconnects With Network Error

Summary

At the end of a round (the first round) the next round never loads. Scoreboard pops up normally, then once it’s done the ‘freeze’ starts. I can look around but can’t move or interact with anything. After around 30 to 100 seconds, it disconnects and sends me back to the lobby with a network error message in the lobby.

Pushing changes in UEFN also takes me back to the lobby with a “Network Connection Lost” (errors.com.epicgames.common.processing). or "Server Stopped Responding to Connection "(errors.com.epicgames.common.processing). error message.

I don’t get a network error message on any other map but this one.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Enter the map of the private island code or launch the UEFN session of the map.
  2. Start the game.
  3. Press “End Game” or let the round timer end in a UEFN session or private island code.

Alternative reproduction: Pushing changes to the UEFN session also takes me directly back to the lobby with the network error message.

Expected Result

The first round ends, the map reloads, and Round 2 begins normally. When pushing changes, the map should reload and the UEFN session should continue.

Observed Result

The world does not load. The player can look around but cannot move or interact with anything. After around 30 to 100 seconds the session disconnects to the lobby with a “Network Connection Lost” (errors.com.epicgames.common.processing). or "Server Stopped Responding to Connection "(errors.com.epicgames.common.processing). error message

Additional Notes

Island code above is a private island code of the affected version. The published/public version of the map uses different mechanics then the private island code with the issue, it doesn’t have this same issue.

The island code of the public version of the map is 6174-3309-4208.

I don’t think it’s an actual network connection error on my part because every other map works normally. Memory of the map is around 50,000. Here’s some more detail of the possible cause in case this helps:

From the UEFN output log. Successful load at session start:
SpatialGameplayActorLoadingStateUpdated: ESpatialLoadingState::Initializing → Ready → Ready → ReadOnly, then MinigameStateChanged: Setup → Transitioning → WaitingForCameras → Warmup → InProgress

Failed load at round end, same session:
MinigameStateChanged: PostGameTimeDilation → PostRoundEnd → SpatialGameplayActorLoadingStateUpdated: ESpatialLoadingState::Initializing → MinigameStateChanged: PostGameReset → nothing further. No errors logged. 30 seconds later the Valkyrie beacon times out with ConnectionTimeout.

An older revision of the same island using different mechanics transitions rounds correctly, and the build string is ++Fortnite+Release-42.10-CL-57819926, region NAE.

If any more logs are needed let me know, but I would prefer to send the logs privately.

FORT-1154044 has been ‘Backlogged’. This is an issue that is in a queue to be addressed.

Update: This appears to be fixed in 42.30.

I tested the same island I have been having issues with, and all the rounds load in correctly.

I think the fix is this entry from the 42.30 release notes, under Fortnite Ecosystem Updates → Bug Fixes: “Fixed an issue that would cause a crash on the server due to a dangling object reference to the floor on the physics thread that got accessed during world destruction when using ChaosMover for the Newton character.”

It matches what my log showed. The failure happened during world teardown and rebuild, with the server going silent after ESpatialLoadingState::Initializing and PostGameReset. The island is physics-enabled.

FORT-1154044 can likely be closed. I’ll follow up here if it happens again.
