Just switch sorting to “Newest”. I wanted to find asset packs that were recently posted because “Relevance” gives the mix between old and new.

Summary Sorting FAB search results by Rating does not work. When searching for specific query and then sorting by rating, the search is so fuzzy that the top rated results have absolutely nothing to do with the searched term. This makes the Rating sort essentially useless. As you can see on the attached image, when searching for “lowpoly vehicle pack” and sorting by rating, the vast majority of top results do not satisfy any of the “lowpoly”, “vehicle” criteria, and some of them even the “pack”…

It appears that the term to sort by “relevance” is taken way too literally and implies that other sorting methods don’t have to return results even remotely relevant to the search query

Yep, they completely drop the “relevance” metric when sorting by other criteria. Thus items with 0.0001 relevance get on top because they’re more recent, have better rating etc.
Usually you split the search resultset into buckets like ‘relevant’, ‘probably relevant’ and ‘irrelevant’ and then sort each bucket individually and then display results to user. But this “team” knows better

You shouldn’t be using newest when searching for relevancy, only use newest filter if you are trying to find the stuff that released just recently but it’s not gonna prioritize accuracy

It does exactly what it says, it sorts by whatever is newest first and contains that keyword second. Use relevancy if you only want it to focus on keyword and quality.

If I search “medieval town” in Google Images or News and sort by date, I still get “medieval town” results.
Same on other search engines and on other online shops.
Only FAB gets screwed up results when sorting by date.

It shouldn’t work this way. When I type ‘medieval town’ I surely do not want to find coffee machine even if that coffee machine is released just seconds ago. I want ‘medieval town’ and from all towns available I want the most recent. That’s what any half decent shop would show me. But not Fab.

I searched for “lowpoly vehicle pack”, and sorted by rating, because I want to see top rated lowpoly vehicle packs, not top rated whatever products. This is what I got:

There’s simply no amount of mental gymnastics you can perform to justify things like cat animation pack, pixie dust trail VFX, storm loop 3D VDB pack or planet rendering blueprint to show up on the very first page of rating-sorted search query for lowpoly vehicle pack. In fact, it’s fascinating that there’s not even single vehicle related result on the first page.

How can I prove that statement? Simply by the fact that there are tens of thousands other services on the internet that have different sort methods capable of still returning relevant results. If you search Amazon for “toaster” and you sort the result by customer review ratings, it will still show you toasters on the very first page, not baby diapers and car tires.

Google images has a billion results to pull from, fab does not. There are likely 100 new pictures of midieval town images uploaded to the internet everyday, fab does not have that luxury. Fab probably has like 30-50 medieval town packs in its entire lifetime.

Use the store as intended or stop complaining if you want to use it not as its intended.

It’s not Google-specific. Like I mentioned before, other online shops, including the ones owned by Epic, still show “medieval town” results if sorted by newest.

Probably we are not here to watch images. Instagram is for that. Here we want to find an item, usable for our current job, find it, then look at at least 100 other facts about it to make sure it worth the price (poly count, material, animation, style, …) and then read reviews to make sure it has no flaws conflicting with our needs then purchase it, go back to our actual work and continue with our primary job.

Relevancy should not be there in first place, It should search for exactly that, then sort what is shown, by price, name or whatever user selects.

It is like you are cooking and looking for spatula, and your daughter offers you an options of spatula, spoon, knife and fork, when you ask them to give you the biggest, they pick up the cutting board and offer it to you!

I wonder why it should even show probably relevant or irrelevant at all, when you are going to buy a watermelon, probably you are not looking for pomegranates!
