NeoFur - Fur, Fibers, Fuzzy Surfaces and more!

You can patent an algorithm. For example, marching cubes algorithm was patented so people had to think of ways to develop something similar (like marching tetrahedrons). Also there was a tool developed by some students from one of the European universities called Planta. That tool ought to be a cheaper alternative for vegetation rendering, compared to SpeedTree (and also free for non commercial use). But after initial release, they had to stop any development because IDV warned devs that they will be sued because basically IDV patented a lot of things related to vegetation rendering. Unfortunately people at patent offices are typically too dumb to reject such (generic) patent claims.

Thanks for answer cman2k, correct me if i am wronder, morph targets have to be rigged dont they? Becouse in such case i couldnt use them.

What i meant is, if model is rigged and animated, the morph target has to be rigged aswell.

I’m trying to package my project, this is what keeps coming up when I try to run the .exe file of my game.

Just watched a video of ARK: Survival Evolved… not positive, but I think they’ve started using NeoFur for some of their animals

@cman2k The animal in question is a bear that appears at the start of the second video (launched last week) about the new Redwood biome - blink and you’ll miss it. The fur itself appears to be a partial rip-off from the demo mesh you guys reappropriated, however, instead of a proper edit.

Thanks for the reply.

I was wondering why don’t you start a forum where people can share their creations and you give tips and tricks to get more realistic fur.

What I’m making is very basic just out of the box stuff and what neo fur guides show. Im new to UE4.
Maybe there are more possibilities and maybe some advance UE4 user has already done pretty good stuff.

When can we expect to have access to this new shader and motion improvement?

cheers

They have their own fur solution done. I dont know how they do it, its quite unique, looks like some sort of multi alpha cut planes batched along the model, similar to this fur solution but instead using shells it looks like they are just using flat plane. I could be completly wrong but thats what it looks like

Question for community or developers, has anyone confirmed use of NF along with ragdolling? .

Additional question, what is default procedure to update the plugin? Is it just simply copy and paste over old plugin files in project?

THIS!

I can confirm that, for me, ragdolls work perfect with NF

I’ve been disabling the plugin in my project, quitting the editor, deleting the files and pasting in the new update…then opening the project and re-enabling it. Not sure what the “best” or "correct way is though, honestly.

hey guys,

i recently purchased NeoFur just the personal version for now i wanted to test it properly before buying a indie license but i have come into a issue does the plugin only work for engine 4.9.2? and if so was there plans to update it for 4.12.5 only asking because either i have been doing something really wrong or it just does not want to compile for 4.12.5 but im guessing i may have been doing something really wrong :stuck_out_tongue:

Any help advice would be great
Kind Regards
James

Thanks for your input Kenomica, looks like thats the way to go.

When you go to download the plugin from Github, there is a drop-down menu on the page that lets you select specific builds for Unreal Engine:

By changing this to pc_4.12 and downloading again, it should work for your current engine build.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what does ‘Single-project use’ mean ?
I’v skimmed this topic for a long time now but I can’t find a straight answer, does it mean that for each U4E project *folder *in the Library I want to use the plugin I’d need a new licence ?

If so, how would do you guys make this work for 3D artist.

My apologies if this is a dumb question I really don’t know how much DRM has advanced these days. I already had an unfun surprise trying to install one of my plugins on my second workstation, my own fault but it did make me wary of these things.

all I can say is WOW, great tool.

So I have bought the personal version to test, is there a model by which I can upgrade to indie when the project gets to that stage of development?

Thanks again - its easy to use, super fast and works exactly as advertised. within 5 minutes I had my morph target driven fur working great and got spectacular results.
