Need help creating a post-process effect that simulates a cracked camera lens

Hello to everyone, I’m developing a game where the player sees the world from a camera.
In some cases (ex. death, damage) I want to “crack” the lens. But I want to do it with very high quality, I know that I could just put a texture of a broken glass on the screen, but that looks just cheap.
I would love to put refraction, and distortions on the damaged area. I want it to look as realistic as possible.
I need your help since I’m familiar with just the basics of materials, and I have far less experience with post-process materials.
