I’m having quite the issue, sometimes i don’t see it, but that might have something to do with using a specific grass from fab or Quixel. But i want to learn how to eliminate this issue with my foliage, Ill attach a couple of screenshots. but the ussie is te grass has super chaotic and constantly moving shadow artifacts, almost like lumen rays But im pretty much using default settings on a new ARCHVIZ project in unreal 5.5. for Lighting im using a skyatmosphere, volumetriccloud, and a directional light for the sun. This shadow issue really only seems to happen when in the presence of another shadow, in this case the trees shadow. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!
It’s hard to see from those pictures what is “chaotic”, or if any of those are “correct” vs “incorrect” as far as what you’re going for
Doubtful that it’s any particular element and more likely artifacts due to lighting / render settings
Couple things I’d maybe try – the shadow denoiser is something I’ve seen come up quite a lot when doing my own search for rendering artifacts. I’ve seen some people suggesting making sure it’s turned off
The console command:
r.Shadow.Denoiser 0
There are some other shadow settings you can see in the console, too.
If you have Temporal AA turned on, that tends to create some artifacts on moving foliage. You can always test by turning AA off and see if that resolves anything.
Otherwise adjusting your lumen quality would be the next place I’d recommend.
If this is something you’re going to be rendering, then really cranking the temporal samples in AA can help resolve little glitches and noise in the actual render.
5.5 is still really new, and I know on my end I’ve already found it to have introduced a lot of little rendering quirks that I wasn’t encountering in 5.4, either because there are pipeline changes or actual issues newly introduced.
Megalights, for example, has been creating a lot of noise / flickering in my renders to the point where I’ve decided to turn it off (for renders, there’s not as much need, anyway)
Hope something in there helps.
