My Unreal Engine 5 shortcut somehow got deleted from the desktop. I have two versions of the engine installed, but the Epic Games Launcher isn’t recognizing them. Both versions appear greyed out, and none of my projects are showing up in the launcher. I’ve already integrated UE 5.5 with Visual Studio for my game project, so I don’t want to uninstall it. Are there any fixes for this?

Hello there @Sathwik_Kumar1!

The greyed out labels in the launcher suggests that the install are not being properly detected, maybe due a change in your folder structure, or corrupted data after a crash or restart.

I believe the best approach here would be a full uninstall/reinstall of all Epic software:

  • First, uninstall the engine, launcher, asset packs, etc
  • Next, open the registry directory HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Epic Games\Unreal Engine\Builds, and delete any build entries
  • Finally, delete the folders %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UnrealEngine and %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UnrealHeaderTool
  • After that, no elements related to UE should be left in your system
  • Now, reinstall UE launcher from scratch, and only add the latest version of the engine
  • After the process is complete, test opening a blank project

there’s an option to check or repair the installation i think.
