My Indie Game Journey with Unreal Engine 5 – “The Awakening”

Hi Unreal Engine community! :waving_hand:
I’m an indie game developer from Vietnam :vietnam:, and I’m excited to share my solo game development journey using Unreal Engine 5. The project is titled “The Awakening”, a survival-action game with exploration and narrative elements.

:video_game: About the Game

:wrench: What I’ve Done So Far

  • :white_check_mark: Built a small open-world using Nanite and World Partition
  • :white_check_mark: Implemented Combat system using Blueprints + Animation Montages
  • :white_check_mark: Developed AI behavior for NPCs with Behavior Trees & EQS
  • :white_check_mark: Created a dynamic weather system using Volumetric Clouds and Lumen lighting

:camera_with_flash: Devlog Screenshots

(Insert 2–3 images of gameplay, environments, or concept art if available)

:brain: What I’ve Learned

  • The real power of Blueprints when combined with C++
  • How to optimize for Android by limiting Lumen and using Level Streaming
  • Creating animations directly in-editor using Control Rig
  • Most importantly: staying disciplined and patient with personal projects :person_in_lotus_position:

:megaphone: Looking for Feedback

I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially on:

  • Mobile optimization tips for UE5
  • Best practices for clean and scalable UMG UI design
  • Organizing large-scale projects to stay maintainable

 Final Words

Huge thanks to Epic Games and this amazing Unreal Engine community.
Your tutorials, posts, and shared resources have helped me tremendously.

:pushpin: I’ll be updating this Devlog weekly.
Any feedback, questions, or even a simple hello would mean a lot to me!
