My hair is very laggy, HairStrandsVoxelization takes >120ms

Just imported hair from blender using alembic importer, and the groom immediately tanks my framerate.

The same thing happened with the default MetaHumans project, and my groom is pretty basic (1400 strands, 12000 verts).

Turning off Voxelize fixes it, but I’ve seen other people run hair with voxelization just fine. Any idea what’s causing it?

Specs: GeForce GTX 1060 3GB, Intel(R) Core™ i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz
Happens in Unreal 4.26.2 and 4.27.2

Solved, the mesh was scaled very large creating a lot of voxels, scaled it down and it’s pretty performant.

Not sure why MetaHumans was slow though.

What do you mean by “scaled it down”? Where can you control it?

I assume they mean they must’ve imported the groom hair with an improper scale, like 10x or 100x larger than it should be, which wouldn’t be immediately obvious from looking at the groom in the asset viewer and would also cause a ton of voxels to be generated. To correct it the best way would be to export it from Blender with the proper unit scaling, though you could also try a simple re-import by right clicking the asset and changing scale there.
