Multiplayer Survival Game Template

You could always build the world, art assets, and so on and plug in the template down the road :slight_smile:

What is left to be done in the multiplayer version?

Any updates ?

Both of these can be answered by taking a look at the trello linked in this thread. Here it is again: Trello

As mentioned in my last post - sometimes this project has to take back seat. I know everyone is eager to get into it, and things are progressing slowly, but sadly development is my hobby and both my fiancĆ©e (for whom I am a carer of) and I have been quite ill lately (also the reason why my replies have been quit slow). Iā€™ve resumed work on the template today and implemented full gamepad support for the game and ui features that are currently in the project. But outside of the posts I make from time to time sharing screenshots and videos, which should hopefully increase in frequency soon, the trello is the best way to gauge how far itā€™s come.

Keep in mind that, while much of the trello is labelled as not started yet, the inventory system is by far the most complicated part of the entire thing, so itā€™s important to keep in mind that all of that is finished off except for the UI for chests (hoping to knock that off today). I also have to take some time to update both of my packs to 4.12 to keep them on the marketplace, which shouldnā€™t take long, but we shall see - hoping that wonā€™t add further delays to progress. On top of this I am receiving support requests for the current SGT from current customers that I must also address - so things do stack up a little. I know you guys are excited for the multiplayer release - as am I - but all I can really offer is ā€œitā€™s coming as soon as I can get it to youā€. I hope that helpsā€¦

Anyways, I will hopefully have more to show off in this thread soon :slight_smile:

will this be updated to 4.12 now that it is out?

Iā€™ll be doing the 4.12 update in the next 24 hours or soā€¦ then itā€™s up to Epic. Unfortunately, as they are quite busy around the major updates, they can sometimes take a while to update the files (took them about 3 weeks last time to update to 4.11).

Just letting you guys know that Iā€™ve done some testing under the stable 4.12 build and it appears that no further work is required to get the 4.11 version of the Survival Game Template working as intended under 4.12. Obviously Iā€™ll let you know if this changes, but as of now Iā€™ve notified Epic and they should update the project files accordingly - you can do it yourself by just opening the project in 4.12 instead of 4.11. As always - I recommend you backup your 4.11 project and/or open a separate copy under 4.12 just in case :slight_smile:

Iā€™m going to purchase this template and use it as a base template. Iā€™m also going to make a cheeky request as I think a saving system would be pretty cool for users to save everything from their inventory to the time of day. Survival games tend to be long drawn out quests etc so people testing demos would benefit a lot from being able to progress from where they left off.

Hey there. The system already has a save system built into it that does all that :slight_smile: It also can be easily set up to autosave every x seconds/minutes and such :slight_smile:

Just a reminder, as I am still getting emails asking about how to follow progress, that I have a public trello running with all the progress on the multiplayer rewrite here: https://trello.com/b/OIoSXNVj/ue4-survival-game-template-mp-overhaul

I have also, recently, opened a new twitter account for my UE4 work, and will be posting updates on there also. You can view/follow that account here: https://twitter.com/dapperraptordev

Just a notice to any one interested in the template - It is on sale from today (Tuesday 6th September) until Monday 12th of September for 25% off on the marketplace! Details on progress of multiplayer, and all the new features, coming in the next few days including a video update. Thanks for the patience!

And finally got around to an update video and even more information included in an update post about the multiplayer rewrite. BE WARNED - both the video AND the post are very long. Everyone keeps asking me for information (everywhere but here strangely enough XD) so Iā€™ve put as much in there as I could at this point! I would recommend the post over the video, as I ramble far too much :stuck_out_tongue: but some things are really demonstrated a lot better in video formā€¦ Good luck!

@apoisonedgift - Nice post. I am super excited about this and still canā€™t wait to get my hands on it. 8-}

Thanks XD Iā€™m glad that everyone seems to have given me a bit of patience with how long Iā€™m taking and are still keen haha. It is muchly appreciated!

Just posting, due to some confusion by a few customers - the multiplayer videos are showcasing a FUTURE update (this was stated in the video but itā€™s a long video soā€¦ makes sense XD). At the moment the features/ui implemented in the multiplayer videos are not publically available. I hope to have this update released very soon, but it depends on a lot of things. Working hard though :slight_smile: Sorry for any confusion.

Please note the current sale (25% off) on the Survival Game Template has been extended until the 19th of September.

This has to be a bargain, considering your adding all the multiplayer code to this. I would fully expect the asking price to increase for all your hard work and it would be well deserved. Good Job My Friend ! P.S I suggest anyone thatā€™s interested jump in now while the price is discounted.

Cheers for the kind words :slight_smile: The price will be going up a little when the multiplayer hits (most like $10). But given the extended feature set that will be launching with it, I honestly can say it is a good buy at that price still :slight_smile:

@apoisonedgift: I have bought it ā€¦ if I start my project now, how easy will it be to put the multi-player version in when it is released? I can hold off my project until the multiplayer is released ā€¦ so it is no biggie. 8-}

I canā€™t really say for sure until itā€™s 100% feature complete, but you shouldnā€™t have issues merging the two, but the settings from the single player one wont carry over to the multi player one sadly. So youā€™ll need to set it up in that regard again. This is an unfortunate necessity due to the large number of changes and completely different (better and more optimized) methodology. Settings donā€™t even work in the same way haha XD There will be some sort of video demonstrating how one might go about this task when it hits though :slight_smile:
