I am trying to render an object in a scene with a transparent background, a product photography shoot so to speak.
To get this transparent background I am using the movie render queue with a multilayer EXR to get a clean mask for the object. The plan is to then take this into after effects for color correction etc as well as a solid color background replacement.
So far I have found 2 solutions, both with flaws that make it un-usable for me and our purposes:
- The first to use cryptomattes, this solution works reasonably well but does not support the depth of field which is essential especially for our macro shots (we are using exact lens match camera set up)
- The Second is to use the new Data Layers system. This system works much better and supports depth of field etc however the problem with this is it does not support Nanite geometry. This is a major issue as we are using the new nanite displacement system for our materials (this is 100% necessary for our purposes, our products have fine detail in the surface)
My questions being, do we know if this is a known issue with the MRQ?
If it’s known, is there a plan in a future update to fix this?
Also is there a workaround to enable nanite with the Data Layers?
