I saw you wrote this in your UE4 FAQ:
The reason is very simple. If you are a small indie developer you need access to as many animations as possible which fit your game, and as someone who uses UE4 you will most likely find these in the UE4 marketplace. If you don’t update the skeleton you use in your game, you will no longer be able to buy new animations on the marketplace. If you have not bought animation packs before the new skeleton was introduced you can also not access the old versions any more because all sellers have updated their animations to the new skeleton. So you are pretty much forced to update your skeleton 
And I think it’s really good that Epic has changed the skeleton to a new more realistic one.
