I would like to know if it is possible to use motion capturing in Unreal Engine as some kind of VR input device for a game. What are the requirements for this and is it even possible? I´m asking for my bachelor thesis.

It depends what you mean by input device.
In my case, I developed a full body mocap plugin and using VR gloves, I created hand poses that will trigger specific actions ( grab/release, move, teleport, and so on ).
