Miscalculated Ray Tracing Geometry Always Resident Memory as 15.999 EiB

We’re experiencing an issue where, once we upgraded our Unreal Engine project to 5.8.2 from 5.6.1 we see this error no matter what is in a Level (even if it’s completely empty). We see it in preview windows for rigs, static meshes, skeletal meshes, etc.

I’ve tried increasing (and testing) the r.RayTracing.ResidentGeometryMemoryPoolSizeInMB, and the warning refuses to disappear.

Based on internet sleuthing, the issue appears to be with some kind of miscalculation where it’s reporting one of the values as 15.999 EiB, so the warning is always triggered. The only way to remove this warning is to disable Viewport Stats, which we prefer not to do as that also hides any useful warnings/errors.

This issue appears everywhere in our project in both Linux (where most artists work) and Windows.

If this has something to do with Nvidia Drivers as some on the internet report, these are our current Nvidia drivers:

Linux: Nvidia Driver 580.142

WIndows: Nvidia Studio Driver 591.74

Steps to Reproduce

Thanks for raising this issue. There’s a bug causing an overflow when converting r.RayTracing.ResidentGeometryMemoryPoolSizeInMB to bytes.

Can you try reducing r.RayTracing.ResidentGeometryMemoryPoolSizeInMB so its <= 2047 in the meantime?

Cheers,

Tiago

Thanks Tiago, changing the value to 2047 has at least made the error message go away for now. We’ll keep it there for the time being.
