It seems the issue is incompatibility with plug ins. I can’t add Quixel (which I thought was due to the Fab conversion mid-Oct) but the Metahumans plug in won’t install either, even after reinstalling it. It gives an error that there are no compatible versions installed even though 5.5 is installed and it says it works with 5.5.
So now the option to create a Meta identity from a mesh isn’t there either because that relies on the Metahumans plug in to be installed and enabled. The only Metahumans plug in I can find in the plug in settings is Metahuman SDK which I enabled and still wasn’t able to import any Metahumans.
The other issue comes from attempting to download any Metahuman from the Quixel website. When you attempt to it gives an error saying that it can’t be used with UE4 and to download Quixel for UE5 and provides a link that redirects to the Fab support site
The Quixel Bridge and Metahuman plugins install and run fine for me in 5.5. My issue is that all Metahumans in Bridge are saying they are out of date (legacy) and can’t be downloaded/added
After some trial and error I was able to get the plug ins installed, and am now seeing the exact issue you are. The metahumans are greyed out, it says to update them in MHC but the MHC is still on 5.4 so there’s nothing to update it to. So now I suppose we wait until 5.5 of MH releases?
Oh wait, no after searching the interwebs it’s a Plugin that needs to be installed through the Epic Games Launcher Library. Go down to Vault (or Fab Library) and Quixel Bridge should be there then you can install it to Unreal 5.5 Engine. They should really make Metahumans importable via Fab as I assume Quixel Bridge is now basically dead right…
Metahuman plugin is not available to be added to 5.5. Since updating UE the Metahuman plugin is no longer in my library. Fab says that it is (in my library) though it is not.
But I found the solution: I actually didn’t have the right MetaHuman plugin installed, I mistook the similar looking MetaHuman SDK plugin for it. I think this is because I had been playing around with earlier versions of MH.
Once the user installs the MetaHuman (not MetaHuman SDK) plugin, it becomes possible to add a MetaHuman Identity in the Content Drawer as instructed in the guide.
