do I need to exclude decals? They render right on one eye only. Does the LOD make a difference here?

Are you using the deferred or the forward renderer?
Will have a look, I used dereferred rendering. Forward does only render a black scene.
Forward rendering just straight-up not working on VR is quite bad. As you very well may know forward is preferential for VR due to the lower base cost, although with each subsequent headset generation that matters less and less. It simply not working to begin with is quite strange.
Yeah I figured. About 20% less GPU resource is used. I will try translucent decals. I read this works in a 2018 post, so I guess this is an issue still.
Note: I will vectorize the parts I can and use slightly embossed surfaces. That´s not feasible like this.
