Meshes turning black on lighting build

Hi, I’m an artist trying to create an arch-viz type of level using the VR blueprint as a basis (motion controller map). I’m using unreal version 4.13.2 I’ve seen this issue discussed before elsewhere in the forum, but I’m not having any success with the feedback unfortunately. I’m importing a mesh that I’ve created first in Solidworks, imported to 3DS Max as an STL file (having this issue with a lot of native 3DS Max meshes too though), applied materials, added UVW unwrap modifier, applied that UVW modifier to 2nd UV channel, on examination, my UVW unwrap does not show any overlapping UVs that I can see. I import the mesh to Unreal. It looks great! I add lights to the level: still great. Build the lighting at medium quality, the mesh turns black. Help please!

I’ve solved the mystery!!! UVW Maps 101 it appears. I use planar UVW maps all the time in 3DS Max. You can’t so that apparently. Some of the objects in my scene had cylinder maps by necessity and thus, the light mapping worked. I finally ran a search with the right question. In reading the section on ‘Unwrapping UVs for Light-maps’ I found my answer. YES!!!
