Hi!
Are there currently any plans to add vertex color baking for skeletal meshes in the mesh modeling tools?
In the Editor’s “Modeling Mode” there is currently functionality in place to bake vertex colors on static meshes. However, the option to bake vertex colors is not available for skeletal meshes and currently greyed out (because the implementation does not exist).
We would like this feature to improve the production pipeline of our upcoming game (Deep Rock Galactic: RogueCore) as we want to avoid baking vertex colors in other 3D modeling tools and just be able to do it directly in UE.
Hi, we could potentially add this functionality to the skeletal mesh editing tools (ie. in the skeletal mesh editor). Would that give you what you need or do you need it specifically to be supported with the modelling tools within the level viewport?
That sounds really good, it would be enough for us to work with!
If the functionality is exposed I can simply add it wherever our team needs it in the end, but I think the skeletal mesh editor sounds good!
Thanks!
Ok, I’ve created a feature request for this to be supported via the skeletal mesh editing tools. And possibly also via the mesh modelling tools. The dev team will triage this so I can’t give any specific timelines, but we are actively working on improvements for the skeletal mesh editor at the moment. Are you ok for me to close out this thread for now?
Thanks!
Yeah, you can close the thread for now, I’ll keep an eye out for updates on this!
