Memory Calculation Stuck Since Yesterday At 0% to 3% - Tried 4 Times Already to Publish No Success

Summary

Been trying to publish my updated bike race map since yesterday, but it keeps getting stuck at 0% to 3% on the Memory Calculation phase in Fortnite. It just never moves on, you can even leave it for hours, and nothing happens. I have more than 6 screenshots showing the different time stamps.

Steps to Reproduce

Once you have updated your map, go through the normal steps of getting it published.
Publish private version.
Launch Fortnite session from UEFN.
When Fortnite launches, cancel game and go as usual to project.
Launch Memory Calculation from UEFN.
Now you will wait forever.

Expected Result

The Memory Calculation phase in Fortnite is not moving past 0% to 3%. It is stuck most of the time on 0% and keeps on saying Teleporting . . . .

FOLLOW UP - This is Day 3 now and still I can’t publish the island. The issue that the Memory Calculation in Fortnite gets stuck at 3% is still ongoing. I have also reached out to Epic Support directly, but still no response.

I have even reverted back to Diretx11 just to check if that solves the issue, but it doesn’t.

Heya,

whats your cell size & loading range ?
do you have any custom content ?
have you done a fresh HLOD build before launching memory calc ?

UPDATE: I have tried all suggestions in several forums, contacted Epic support but as usual no help from there.

UPDATES MADE:

  • Island Settings >
  • Renamed Assets folder to Stuff
  • Texture Info updated (for those who didn’t notice after update 32 many textures was somehow reset to no minimaps and so forth, so you might want to check all your textures again. I had to redo all texture info.)
  • Day Sequence (dome) delete if any. Mine didn’t have.
  • HLOD deleted.
  • New HLOD built.
  • Play Creative which somehow fixes stuff, but it doesnt load for me and keeps Timing Out, We Hit a Roadblock appears.
  • Also, updated World Settings. Don’t know if you guys noted, but the World Settings have been updated with new layout and information and has changed, so I updated it, but still nothing works.
  • Waited for map to load completely into edit session before pressing continue to calculate memory. Work around didn’t work.

RESULT AFTER ALL UPDATES from this forum and others, Memory Calculation still stuck on 0%.

Why after update 32 we have all this issues? While in 31 we finally had a semi stable UEFN, now it’s all my islands that can’t do memory calculation.

The Delete HLODs from the build menu doesn’t delete the bad references.

Modifying or deleting custom content thats already in the HLOD layer seems to leave these references in there.

I have a map with texture data applied to fortnite props, it will consistently get failed HLOD build from any small map change, even modifying a billboards text, unless I delete the HLOD layer.

This is the method I use to get it to build HLODs, I’m currently at HLOD layer18, but was able to publish my latest update today.

This is how I replace HLOD Layer (pasted from a text file)

  • Close Fortnite Edit/Play Mode if its running
  • Check-in Changes and make a snapshot with URC for backup
  • Make a new HLOD Layer in Content Browser - Right Click>World>HLOD Layer
  • Delete existing HLOD Layer - Replace References to the new one - DON’T Save When it asks, otherwise it will keep the bad references in the HLOD
  • Double Click on Level Thumbnail in Content Browser to reload map, can save if prompted
  • Do a Build Landscape - ignore Yellow Warnings - use drop down filter to deselect them - deal with any Red Errors
  • Double Click your Level Thumbnail again, Save.
  • Build HLODs
  • Try to launch session

Good day, @Hardcawcanary,

Thank you for your kind response. Much appreciated. I’m going to try this now.

UPDATE
@Hardcawcanary Thank you so so much for your excellent advise. Your step-by-step instructions solved the problem of the Memory Calculation problem. I am so thankful, and grateful. You’re a livesaver.

For anyone else struggling, the step-by-step instructions by @Hardcawcanary works when you are struggling with the Memory Calculation stuck at 0% or so.

Additionally, everytime you make changes in the game, unfortunately, it seems you have to rebuild the HLODs. After the first successful memory calculations, I noticed some bugs in the game, fixed those, and then the memory calculation didn’t want to work again on launch. So I again rebuild all the HLOD exactly the same way @Hardcawcanary explains above, and then the memory calculation works agait.

Good Morning!
I’m a the point when the map no longer wants to publish my updated version, even though following the previous system of rebuilding the HLOD that previuosly fixed the problem. But now, it’s always stuck on 2% in Fortnite when doing the memory calculation. How do I find the issue if the HLOD rebuild doesn’t want to work anymore? (This started happening after the 2nd last update of UEFN).

Heya,

Hmmm, if a HLOD refresh doesn’t work, then the HLOD layer is not the issue.

Stuck on 2%,
If it has started to check the first cell, then that would indicate something in the first cell is causing it to get stuck, in which case it could be anything in that cell or maybe even the HLODs seen from that cell,
But I guess at 2% it hasn’t even started checking the content of cells, so it would be loading stuff that is always mean’t to be loaded. Because your HLOD layer is fresh we can rule that out.

Something like too many devices of a certain type or a device with broken references, a nav mesh with a glitch…

What things have you got in your project ?
