MATERIALS:TRANSLUCENT MAKES MESH APPEAR MESSED UP.

I’ve been trying to make a window for my project. I’m still very new to materials and I’m decent in blender but still new. I UV Mapped and Color Mapped my mesh, the model is basically a frame and the glass. For some reason the glass when translucent the back face only appears and the front face disappears. I’ve tried using double sided faces but they didn’t work. BUT the faces are good in opaque. How would I solve this?

Simple example with opacity:

Grey => glass; Black => frame

Are the normals right?

My bad for not making this clear. My problem is when I use translucent the frame looks see through and I can only see the glass from the backside. I’ll edit the question for clarification.

The outside faces are facing outwards, the faces inside the glass are inwards, this is my first time making a window. It’s changing the material from opaque to translucent that messes up things. The frame is see through even in 1 opacity and the back face of the glass can only be seen.

Can you share the model?

Also, here’s my test with translucent blend mode:

It works as expected, but how come my material node is different from yours? Why are the Metallic, Specular, … pins active in yours?

In any case, if the model only has 1 material channel, I recommend you use the opaque/masked blend mode and the opacities pins to make the glass. If the model has 2 or more materials channels and one of them is the glass, then use the translucent blend mode in the glass material.

For the model, ignore the wall mesh. I’ve yet to map the wall. The reason why the nodes were different is because my lighting mode was different, its under the details panel. Changing it doesn’t affect the problem. I’ll try to figure it out but here’s the file if you want to try it.

Not to be rude or anything but are you still there?

Sorry for the delay. The issue is definitely with your model. Unfortunatelly, after trying several possible solutions in unreal, the issue still remains.

As I previous suggested, the best solution is to use 2 different materials: one for the frame and other for the glass, just like Epic does, for example, in the SM_Statue)

I think the reason was the blend mode was translucent so it makes all of the model translucent INCLUDING the frame so that’s why it’s see through, do you know if there was a way to make the glass transparent while in opaque or something else, by faking it if possible? Thanks for helping me out this far!
EDIT: I’ll Probably change the mode to the glass and a frame seperate.

The translucent works fine, as long the model has no internal faces. So, for a window + frame, it’s a little complicated, to avoid those. But for something like a bottle with a cap, then it’s good.
