After the lag, the mesh material becomes black.
I tried to update the material, it appears again, but after restarting the project, everything needs to be updated again.
Hello,
I was about to do a post about it but found one already, I experience same exact thing, and adding to what been said every time its random model, need to reload the editor the get material back to normal
I found thread with similar problem from beginning of the year where people advised to disable OODLE (Data compressing plugin) in order to reduce material to blackout, and it is indeed reduces the number of occasions but unfortunately does not eliminate the problem.
As I can see it is not a common problem people running into, but really want to know the root of it, it is so annoying to reload editor every now an then to be able to see what you are working on
Please does someone can direct though it?
@Ghos79 thanks for the post, hopefully we gonna be helped
Yes, I hope they will help, and I have this problem that is widespread throughout the entire engine and it even occurs in a new project to which I add meshes.
Yes indeed there are fewer black meshes but they are still there. Do you know if this error will occur in an already assembled game if I am going to sell it in steam?
To be very honest, I have no idea, but disabling OODLE it should be temporary solution only.
I guess the only way to find out is to make a build of your game and test it.
It has also spread thorough other my projects what makes me feel, something broke in the engine because I didnāt have such a problem before as well as I didnāt have it in any other versions of Unreal Engine editor beginning from version 5.0 until 5.5 and even 5.5 was fine when I just moved to it, but all of a sudden materials begun to switch black and glow for no reason.
I used āVerifyā on editor through launcher to check integrity of editors files - showed nothing, changed nothing
Next step I going to do is reinstallation of the editor and see will it fix the problem, I will get back when I do.
I also had everything broken when switching to version 5.5 and not right away but when I changed the regular material to a material with nanite support. Iām looking forward to hearing from you if a complete reinstallation of the engine will help.
Hi buddy, was the problem solved after reinstallation?
Hello,
Havenāt done it yet, my modeller dropped some new models for our project was quite busy and still am
Once I do it, I will let you know
Hello,
I am back with the feedback.
I think I found solution, I didnāt need to reinstall the editor.
So what I did is I turned back on OODLE plugin to make things worse and investigate this matter (previously was worse with it ON, way more occasions of braking material).
After doing that, I worked on my project for about 3 days and it didnāt happen again, I have tried to replicate the issue of braking material but it didnāt happened.
In my case turning OFF and ON OODLE plugin helped me to get back on track, I am not saying it is solution for everyone, but for me it somehow worked and problem seems to be eliminated.
I will update if it going to change but so far it looks alright, I have tried in other projects and all works good, I can not even say what was that, I struggled with it for quite a bit.
If you still have the problem, please try to turn it OFF and ON and see how it goes.
Good luck on your development!
Hi @Ghos79,
I see that your viewport is set to Medium scalability. Does this problem disappear when you switch to High/Epic scalability?
Some material features, such as distance fields, are not available at the lower scalability settings by default and can break materials.
I would also recommend updating your graphics drivers just to rule that out as a cause.
Additionally, does this issue persist if you replace any textures with basic colors? There is an engine bug on I believe 5.3-5.5 that can cause your textures to go black and need resaved.
Itās great that you were able to solve your problem.
Too bad your method didnāt work for me.
Sorry to hear that
Updated the drivers, everything is the same.
And yes, if I replace this material with the base one, it also becomes black after saving and restarting the project, but if I replace the already black material with the color base one, it is displayed normally.
In general, this began to happen after transferring the project from version 5.4 to 5.5, on the previous version everything works as it should.
Glory to the eggs of the developer, they fixed my error and on 5.6 everything works as it did in 5.4 and more than a month of work was saved.
