The Material Editor crashes alot.
This can happen at any point I work with it and it crashes the whole engine.
I have checked the questions and answers hub and many people seem to have problems with the material editor but I found no clear solution or explanation. Is there something I can tweek in the preferences or something I should avoid? It really is hurting the workflow because I constantly have to keep saving and be prepared for a sudden shutdown.
I would be happy for any advice, thanks.
By the way my computer doesn’t have any performance issues with the engine besides the material editor so I don’t think it’s a problem with the hardware being to weak.
In order to understand this issue better I would like to gather some more information from you.
You mentioned that your computer shouldn’t have any performance issues with what you are trying to do. Just in case can you link me a copy of your DxDiag?
1.) Does this happen in 4.8.3 or 4.10 preview?
2.) Does this happen in a clean blank project?
3.) Can you link a screenshot of the material and viewport where you have this material applied?
After I have this information I should be able to narrow down what is causing this issue.
thanks for your reply, sorry that i didn’t answer right away, i must have missed it.
right now i am using 4.9.2.
yes, it doesn’t matter if there is content in a project it happens also in a clean and blank one.
it doesn’t happen with a specific material but it only happens when i am doing stuff in the material editor.
as you can see in the picture it is a very basic material only with one color and a bit of reflection. it crashes for instance when i add a new constant.
I use the material for the water surface as you can see in the second picture.
I tested this exact material on an AMD Radeon R9 200 Series graphics card. We changed the values of the metal and specularity along with the roughness.
We were unable to reproduce this issue on our end. The last troubleshoot I have for you is to uninstall and reinstall the launcher and the 4.9.2 version of the Editor.
