`Matchmaking Error #1` when trying to play my UEFN map through `private island code`

Summary

Hey,

I keep having a Matchmaking Error #1 when I try to test my UEFN island through a private island code or “Releases” code or “Playtests” code and I don’t know how to fix it.

In the server status of Epic Games, they wrote that people had Matchmaking Issues these last days and they wrote that it has been fixed yesterday (09/26/2025) but in my case it’s still not solved.

Does anyone know why and how to fix the issue so I can test my map in proper conditions please ?

Unreal Editor for Fortnite

What Type of Bug are you experiencing?

Matchmaking

Steps to Reproduce

  • Calculate island memory
  • Publish a private version and copy the “private island code”
  • Put that code in the search bar in the Fortnite Discovery Menu and press Play
  • Wait 2 minutes
  • And you get “Matchmaking Error #1

Same issue if you use a “Releases” code from the Creator Portal. Same issue with a “Playtests” code from the Creator Portal.

Expected Result

Press Play then it should put me in my map so I can test it in real condition (compared to pressing Play in UEFN Editor)

Observed Result

Matchmaking Error #1 (doesn’t launch the map)

Platform(s)

PC

Island Code

1550-7603-0539

Additional Notes

It does the same thing with all my codes for that map but that issue doesn’t occur on my other map / project.

Here are all the codes I generated to test my map but all have the same issue :

  • 1550-7603-0539 (Island Code)
  • 5389-9061-7838 (Private Version)
  • 7640-9854-2981 (Playtest)
  • 9321-4562-0485 (Releases)

Maybe yours was one of these

Hey,

Yeah i already saw that but it says 09/26 : issue resolved ! While it’s definitely not resolved as there are multiple people who still have that issue (including me).

Hey,

Problem Solved !

The issue was in the Island Settings, the setting named “Minimum Players” was set to 4, so me trying to start the game alone while it expected 4 players to start, that’s why it threw that “Matchmaking Error (#1)” error.

I think Epic should make that error message more explicit for this case by saying that we can’t launch the island because there’s not enough players or something along those lines and referring to the “Minimum Players” setting in the “Island Settings”.

Maybe all the creators who reported this issue these last days have the same issue as me, so with this new information, that could resolve their issue if they have the same issue.

Best Regards
