Matchmaking Broken in Europe Region – Players Placed in Separate Lobbies

Summary

Players matchmaking in the Europe region are consistently being placed into separate sessions instead of being grouped into the same lobby. This issue is severely impacting UEFN islands as players are starting sessions alone or in very small groups, effectively making multiplayer islands unplayable.
Through testing with 5 accounts across multiple platforms (Xbox, PC, and mobile), we were able to confirm that the bug is region-specific and not related to island settings, device type, or network configuration. Within the Europe region, not only are players failing to be grouped together, but there also appears to be an additional platform-based split — Xbox and PC accounts land in separate solo lobbies, while a mixed group of PC and mobile accounts ended up together, suggesting the matchmaking system is incorrectly treating platform as a session filter in this region.
When all 5 accounts switched their region to NA-East and repeated the exact same test, all players were successfully placed into the same lobby without any issues. This confirms that the root cause is isolated to the Europe region’s matchmaking infrastructure and is not a client-side or island configuration problem.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Set 5 accounts to the Europe region (mix of Xbox, PC, and mobile)
  2. Have all 5 separate accounts (not teamed up) matchmake into the same UEFN island simultaneously (preferably empty)
  3. Observe that most players are placed into separate sessions
  4. Repeat the test with all 5 accounts set to NA-East region

Expected Result

All 5 players matchmaking for the same island in the same region should be placed into a single shared lobby.

Observed Result

In Europe region, players are split across multiple solo lobbies by platform, the Xbox account landed alone, the PC account landed alone, and only the 2 PC + 1 mobile accounts ended up together. When switching to NA-East, all 5 accounts successfully joined the same lobby, confirming this is a Europe region-specific issue.

When I wrote this message I had tested it numerous times and it worked, now I am retesting again and it doesn’t seem to work, very confusing
