From mostly a consumer perspective looking to sell assets in the future…I have a creative solution/proposal to this entire problem.
Instead of having a review process that is hindered by extremely long queue times and a lack of feedback/responsiveness, why not have content authors push their products entirely by themselves?
Obviously there would be some sort of security measures in place to make sure people aren’t trying to sell inappropriate or illegal content, but an automated scan could handle that to some degree.
Then, any assets that are released using this method would have a separate tag associated with them, something to the effect of “pending approval from Epic” Any content released this way would have a disclaimer mentioning potential incompatibility issues due to not having gone a full review process yet. Content authors would have to agree to terms that state that they aren’t posting anything illegal, to rid Unreal of the liability to some extent. I’d imagine this ‘tagging’ to be similar to the way other marketplaces like Turbosquid use Checkmate verification.
At the end of the day, you can’t hope to have a bustling and thriving marketplace with a stagnant review process - otherwise content authors will leave and people will buy the products elsewhere.
Trusted authors shouldn’t have to wait months to release a new product on the marketplace and Epic, seeing as how they get a cut of all these sales, should be looking to improve on it more than they are. I think the additional efforts made as of late are appreciated but it needs to be pushed further.
I originally submitted about 4 months and 2 weeks ago for 4.15. They asked for 4.16 files, they didn’t ask for 4.17, but I sent them anyway. Now still silence…
So it looks I’m not the only one with such problems. For me, it doesn’t make much of a difference whether I can decide to release my assets on any day or not. Like someone said, people got used to Wednesday (including me) and they check new releases then.
The waiting time is the bottleneck here. I’ve been an active seller for almost 2 years now, and it’s been always the case. This time I sent my files 50 days ago and I still don’t know what’s the release date, or if there is any problem with the pack. I even wrote a PM to David or Stephanie, but haven’t heard back from them too. I know, holidays time don’t help, but it’s very demotivating.
If there would be some kind of a queue live preview/counter for sellers, that would make you at least know where are you at, what’s the situation and you could estimate the release date.
I’m really looking forward for Marketplace improvements.
And what will be with assets that have stucked on review stage?. I am waiting more than month after sending fixed files, no response. My friend have submitted asset аt the beginning of May, and that have stuck also, another friend have same problem, he also submit asset more than 3 month ago…
I submitted Frozen RPG Weapons about a week after Obsidian RPG Weapons. Obsidian has been for sale on the MP for a couple of weeks now but I’ve had no word on Frozen in months.
Since this seems to be the place to ask, I submitted the Space Combat Kit going on, I think, months now. I don’t want to be that annoying guy asking for status updates, but it has been a while. I feel like my kit will be rejected for a few minor issues that I’ve cleaned up as well for 4.17, so I’m wondering if I should be contacting someone with my new files, or if that will reset my queue.
Is it possible to get an update on the status of my kit? It’s my first time submitting to the marketplace and it’s a bit of a large project so I’m not sure if it’s just taking time or I got lost in the crowd
I’m still waiting on a release date for an animation pack that was approved a few days after a pack that I have had up on the MP for over a month. and 3 packs all submitted a month + ago that I still have no idea if approved or not yet.
And I was just thinking why there are so few releases on marketplace for Unreal now a days. Used to be more stuff coming out every week. Hope this is remedied fast since us indie developers are very much dependant on new stuff coming out on the marketplace.
Wait hold on! There is more that could be done here!
We need a “Just Updated” section, or “New Update” tag for assets that go through big overhauls and are effectively a better product than when it first released. There are a LOT of assets on the marketplace that get major overhauls that deserve another spotlight.
Purposes this serves:
Helps content creators get more attention to their assets once they release a big update
Brings in customers who were on the fence, waiting for that update
Encourages marketplace creators to upgrade their assets
Attracts new customers who maybe missed out on that asset when it first launched
I realize this might not make it to this big list of changes, but please consider it, as it would help everyone.
THIS! I suffered consequences of not having this feature. I made a content, then added 10 times more features into it -which took 10x more time than first version- hoping for an improvement at sales but it didn’t happen because very few people who saw the forum post knew about it. After that, I decided to not submit new content until it is nearly perfect, which takes really long time. And I doubt I’ll ever add new features to any of my content, unless it is really needed or marketplace adds the feature mentioned above.
Btw, they somehow broke the rating stars in marketplace. Wonder if I’ll ever see my 5 stars again
Where is the said feature in the new portal?
Review and release still seem to be the same manual process as before and releases are still limited to Wednesdays?
I’ve still been waiting for my bundle which comprises of already released UE4 Marketplace products to be released… It has been approved since the 15 of August along with my Ice shader, yet only my Ice Shader was released a few days after. Despite other sellers having a multitude of products releasing in one week. It’s now an entire month since it’s been approved with no release date in sight, and nearly 3 months now since it’s been submitted. To put that in perspective I will still have to wait 45 days after the month it launches to see the profits from sales. We’re getting to a point where it will be pushed into 2018. This is so insane for an online business I just don’t even know what to say anymore.
I’ve sent project files for review 2 months ago. I’ve sent two emails on the support mail asking what’s the status, not a single response. I’ve heard that some people started getting messages to resubmit through new portal, I haven’t got anything like that either.
Hmm… Am I a ghost?.. I mean, can you see my posts? … Maybe I don’t exist and I just don’t realize it. Worth checking.
