This is the second update for my seamless portal for unreal engine 5, I’m actually quite happy with the progress so far considering I started learning Unreal a week ago. I have attached a video that shows all of my work so far. In the second half showing the blueprints. Unreal 5 seamless portal WIP 2 - YouTube
I need to work on momentum, which should help remove that jitter effect. The colour of the floor reflected on the wall is not helping, if I can get the scene capture to take that reflection that would be awesome. but I think I’m going to have to turn off lumen. The size of the scene capture doesn’t look right to me, but I can’t really tell what’s causing it. I think it would also be helpful instead of a flat plane, I used a square instead.
The portals are not flush against the wall but instead, there is nothing behind the portals themselves. they’re basically inside of a tunnel, they can’t be against any type of wall or else the player will spawn in the floor. and we’ll start teleporting constantly until they fall through the level.
The scene capture camera that is on the other side of every portal to project the actual image seems to be moving forward and backwards with the player which kind of breaks the portal illusion. it should be locked to the portal itself, I believe this will also help the seamless look.
I would like also to add objects that can be moved through the portals as well. If I can also change the size of the player or add any effect to the player once they have interacted with the portal, this would also be incredibly useful. having a player fall through a magnifying glass and get smaller is very interesting visually for me.
