The Epic Games GitHub organization is undergoing maintenance to improve our ability to support the ever-growing UE community.
To accommodate this growth, we’ll be creating additional GitHub organizations. To start, there will be one new org—https://www.github.com/EpicGames-Mirror-A, and we anticipate adding more in the future.
What does this mean for existing users?
There are no changes for existing users today; you will be able to access the repository as you always have.
Linking your account to GitHub for the first time?
Starting Monday, 2024-06-10T04:00:00Z, any new users that link their Epic Games Account to GitHub will be added to the secondary organization, https://www.github.com/EpicGames-Mirror-A. For the time being, this mirror and any other non-primary orgs will have the following limitation:
Pull Requests will not be accepted from the mirrored repositories
New users will not be able to access forks created within the original organization
These mirrors should otherwise function normally. We’ll be working on reducing the limitation on these secondary orgs and provide updates as these changes occur.
We apologize in advance for any inconveniences—stay tuned for further updates.
Hello ,
I have a question, today I have linked my github account because I needed to clone a fork, but despite that I still can’t access it.
To my understanding the fork I try to access was created using the old organization and the one I have been added to don’t seem to own the access right. Is that the case? If not can you point me toward the step by step to get acces to it.
Hello - just joined GitHub last night to get access to a UE fork, but due to this mirroring change it appears I can’t get access to it. Is the team aware that Mirror-A doesn’t appear to have access to projects made in the original EpicGames github?
For our GitHub project, we use the EpicGames/Developers team to allow read access after users have accepted Unreal’s terms and services to stay in compliance with Unreal. However, with this new mirror link, the users aren’t part of that team, and we can’t add another team. Is there any way we can add the latest organization to our project and the old EpicGames/Developers team?
Hi there,
I am trying to find a specific fork for a version of Carla that is supposedly on the Unreal Engine GitHub. However when trying to find it on the MirrorA version that we are now being directed to i am unable to find that fork any suggestions as to why considering these mirrors are said to function as normal?
Thank you
Oscar
Is this why I can’t clone something from GitHub, I am trying to accesses this like https://github.com/narknon/UnrealEngine-CEEnd/tree/KHEngineBuilt but when I try I get 404’d
I just linked my accounts together (GitHub & Epic) and I got the email and clicked the link but no still 404…
Given how GitHub orgs work, I’m not sure how this solution will allow members to view and access forks from other developers. If you joined prior to June 10th you can’t see forks in the new Mirror org, and vice versa, if you joined after and want to share your fork with other Epic Games members they won’t be able to. How will this be mitigated long-term?
I tried creating a brand new fork and it didn’t automatically give access to the new EpicGames-Mirror-A organization and I couldn’t add access for them. How could someone who’s on the older org. add the newer group, so new people could work on existing forks? How are we supposed to have new people work on old projects if the old projects can’t be seen by new people (and vice versa new forks off the mirror can’t be seen by old users)
Hello, I can’t access https://github.com/CarlaUnreal/UnrealEngine.git/. I have to git it for my project but due to the new Mirror A system, I’m not allowed to git it. Could you please provide me access for the older version of Epic Games github org, so that I can work on my project
Hello I too am having major issues with the installation of Carla due to a lack of access to CarlaUnreal as a result of this change in repo/gut org policy. Is there a way around this?
Will there be any sort of response regarding this? Everyone who’s joined EpicGames git since this change was made is unable to access previously existing projects. This is a huge issue for any organization that needs to onboard new team members, and for first-time users who are now locked out of training tools and other useful insights.
Having same issue trying to Access NVIDIA RTX Branch for Unreal Engine 5.3](https://github.com/NvRTX/UnrealEngine/tree/nvrtx-5.3) I get a 404 and couldn’t sort out what was going on until I saw this post. Is there a way to get access to older projects like this?
@Amanda.Schade, are you aware that apart from the limitation with “Pull requests not being accepted from mirrored repositories”, there’s this other big limitation that newly signed up accounts can’t access previously forked repos?
This is a huge problem for new devs, as often on-boarding doesn’t work without access to forked unreal engine repos.
I just wanted to make sure Epic is aware of this problem. Are there any possible workarounds?
Please consider making changes or reverting this, it is causing major issues with users in different organizations unable to access each other’s UE forks.
Any updates here? I guess it’s bad luck for all people who started to work on UnreaEngine projects past June 10th… Is there nothing we can do to get access to forks right now?
I couldn’t find any update or workaround. It is not fair for us who just joined the community. I hope the admin team will see the issue here and take an action to solve it. @Amanda.Schade
