I am currently learning Unreal Engine through the Coursera certificate by Epic Games (https://www.coursera.org/professional-certificates/epic-games-game-design-professional-certificate). I am now in the final module of the course with probably 2-3 weeks away from finishing. I have learned a lot, but I do not think this knowledge is going to be enough to get me industry ready for a full time job after the course is done, which is what I want.
I love games which is why I decided to pursue this as a career. Games that made me want to do this work for the rest of my life include: the Zelda series, Tenchu from PS1, the Dark Souls series, Tomb Raider, Gothic, Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima, Street Fighter EX2 Plus and more. I am serious about this as my career and I want to advance my knowledge for getting a full time job as soon as I can, as well as start making my own games. I am 35 and hungry, ready to go on adventures. Almost every night I have dreams of making cool games in Unreal Engine
I found this link (https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/news/reach-the-next-level-with-epic-professional-training) and I wanted to ask if anyone has been through this training, or if it is possible for me to take this course without working for a gaming company. OR, do you know of any additional professional courses that will help me add to my skills and eventually get a job?
I am also available and interested in work to further my knowledge in the game industry. My foundational skills are well developed from the work I’ve done through the Coursera program, and my strongest skills in Unreal Engine right now are environmental and level design, attack animation, lighting, and storytelling.
Thank you for reading. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me in this post or DM.
Here’s my progress in learning Unreal Engine on YouTube:
I will keep updating this post by showcasing new skills I have learned until I get a job or guidance to further my knowledge and get what I want. Thank you and have a nice day. Do not give up if you are new like me and reading this.
It was so much fun to experiment throughout the levels. I remember when I first played Tomb Raider, the Zelda series and more and being amazed by so many cool puzzles, and I am so happy to finally have this similar skill learned today.
Hi @GeekManGames. I’ve followed Your progress and evolution as an UnrealEngine Developer. Your motivation and dedication is Amazing. I remember when you started with a simple level. I evolved in the same manner.
If you want to jump into the games industry, develop a game, publish it, and sell it. That’s all it takes. I know this because Minecraft was initially developed, published and sold by a single indie game developer. Look at what it became. That’s my inspiration and the direction I’m going in.
Are you willing to rapidly develop and publish unique arcade-style multiplayer 3D games and more (interactive tools and experiences) with UnrealEngine? IF TRUE THEN JOINME ELSE …
I always wondered how they implemented health, mana and stamina in the Zelda series, Demon Souls, Tomb Raider, Gothic, Ghost of Tsushima, Dark Souls series, Elden Ring and Street Fighter EX2 Plus and more. Now, I can do it too. Thank you Epic Games for this course.
@TechLord Apologies in advance if this comes across as rude. It is not my intention and I like to be direct as much as socially possible, especially when it comes to building/working together with or without money. I take this seriously because this is what I want to do for the rest of my life and I hope you will understand and forgive me for what I am about to say next here.
I haven’t heard anything from you about the challenge I gave you, and it’s been over a month. I was never communicated if you decided to accept the challenge or not. I don’t know how I feel about joining in your adventure after experiencing this. Remember, you started the challenge series which I still think is really cool to inspire one another to learn/work and create something cool using Unreal Engine.
Sorry about the lack of communication on that. I’m extremely busy with commercial development and life in general. Time is money for me. If I don’t get back to you, assume I’m working hard.
I’ll start on that challenge when I get time too. But, if you want me to teach you anything, you are going to have to meet me in my dojo, cause that’s the only place you will find me and we can communicate in real time using what I’m currently developing to learn.
I recognize you are serious, and its the only reason I follow your progress and reached out to you. You are going to need that passion 1, 2, 5, 10 years from now. I don’t make this offer to just anyone. The door of opportunity is opened now. Walk thru it.
Yeah, about that challenge… It involved Networking
Hi @geekmangame. I have a Challenge for You and its going to change your life. haha.
This one may take a day or two.
Create a simple Chat App, that supports CRUD private group channels. That’s not the challenge. Hehe. The challenge: Display Messages spatially in 3D Text.
This was so much fun to work with. I took one of my favorite weapons from Elden Ring DLC (Guess Which One) and added a little bit of distortion and shifted the pitch to make melee weapon sounds, and I took sounds from the Village pack (FAB) to create Gun and Bow sound effects with lower and higher pitch.
I also made magic sound effects from my phone recordings of myself making sounds, and again I added some distortion and pitch before uploading to Unreal Engine. I did the same thing for my dodge roll sound effects, using towels and rolling onto the wall.
Farts and chicken sounds is made from…. Well, I will let you figure that out hahahaha
I know this might be a small thing for veterans out there making way cooler stuff, but to me, this is probably my proudest moment to make this sound effects and learning how to use them in Unreal Engine.
AI in video games is probably one of the key factors that makes gamers like myself keep coming back to play the game to either complete NPCs’ quests or figure out how to clear the area for better equipment to kill the boss and more. Here’s to my first step on how to do this. My adventure continues…
This was so much fun to learn and a little bit tricky to get it working but I know now the basics of how AI in video games works, which is really cool. My next step is to learn how to attack my character…
I’ve always wondered about the games I love playing and how Enemy AI moves and patrols the area, and now I can do it on my own level. I am looking forward to learning more and thanks for watching.
I can’t believe I can do this now, my enemy AI can now patrol, aggro and attack the player, which is so cool to see. I am looking forward to learning more and thank you Epic Games for this tutorial.
