[FOR HIRE] Looking for guidance (or a job) as a Level Designer (Paid or Unpaid)

I am so grateful to Epic Game’s Coursera course. I know that my knowledge is still basic, but I still can’t believe someone like me who knows nothing about the game industry and Unreal Engine to do this after learning the course. I am now making final games for the course submission.

I have now completed the Epic Games - Game Design Professional Certificate in Coursera. Thank you, Unreal Engine, Epic Games and all the Mentors for this course. I don’t remember everyone’s name lol.

I know a lot of people have complained about video quality, some stuff missing and confusion on the course and, yeah, it is what it is. Nothing is perfect but that outweighs everything for me because of what I have learned from this course.

I am going to submit my final project today. Huge thanks to @ClockworkOcean for playtesting my Prototype Game before submission and helping me out whenever I was stuck with my course. Also, thanks to @Mind-Brain @3dRaven @PresumptivePanda. Here’s the download file for my final project submission for anyone who is interested in playing. It’s not perfect, but I am proud of myself for achieving this goal and finally finishing this entire course.

Here’s the video of how my game looks after finishing all the courses by Epic Games in Coursera. Cheers to finishing this project and if you are a student like me do not give up no matter what other say online or in person.

I recently finished all the courses by Epic Games in Coursera, which were fun and a lot of knowledge. Now, I am beginning my journey to make my first 2.5D game. Have a good day.

Experimenting with landscape environments is probably one of my favorite thing to do in Unreal Engine. I think I made my landscape look like a yummy cake, but that was not intentional. I was just playing around to see what I could do differently, and I think I am going to stick with this design.

Landscape design is such an amazing playground to experiment with, and I have an open mind to go with the flow, especially when I am sculpting. I spend the whole day just doing this and this might sound like a waste of time for someone who is experienced and likes to do everything with pinpoint precision, but to me, experimenting with things I am learning from tutorials has allowed me to learn more and not be afraid of making mistakes.

I am sure I will end up making more, but this is some of the stuff I worked on today. Packed Level actors are really cool, but I made a few mistakes where I mistakenly added other assets and that was annoying (lesson learned) but I love packed level actors.

I am almost done with Landscape and World building for the 2.5D game. Packed Level Actors are really awesome and tomorrow I will be adding sounds which are also really fun to mess around with to come up with something cool. I also made the castle and that felt perfect to me. I am happy and proud of myself for finishing this today.

Thank you to Epic Games Team and Thiago Carneiro (mentor) for guiding me on this project. I have learned a lot from this course and I deeply thank you for sharing this knowledge. During this course, I learned that Packed Level Actors are very crucial to managing assets and Procedural Foliage for quickly bringing natural variation to your environment.

There is so much knowledge in this course, and thank you again for this lesson. I am looking forward to learning more and growing to achieve my goals and this course definitely taught me a lot of cool things that I will be sure to be using in my future projects.

After speaking to a new friend/mentor I recently met, I have decided to start my career as a Level Designer and solely focus on my skills here so I can get a job to get inside the Game Industry and learn as many new skills as I can during my employment. He took his time to look at all my previous work on YouTube and gave me solid feedback, which is why I have decided to start as a Level Designer.
My 10-15-year goal is to work for a big team company and learn all the skills that I need to, then start making my dream games once I feel confident about my skills. Games that made me want to do this work for the rest of my life include: the Zelda series, Tenchu from PS1, Dark Souls series, Tomb Raider Series, Gothic, Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima, Street Fighter EX2 Plus from PS1, Old Pokémon/Mario and so many more. I study 5 days a week, 7–10 hours a day (Full-Time).

Good luck in your journey! I saw nothing in the work that would help you get a job on even a lower level team but it is a start.

What you are looking to do is create one thing at AAA quality. Just one, you can keep redoing it until it is polished shiny and world class. If you need an example the games you play are the target. Your goal in these troubled times of mass layoffs and studio closures is to do something better - cheaper - faster than other people that are also trying to get jobs. Plot the shortest course along this thinking.

This has always been the way it has been, it is a what have you done for me lately industry, so even if you have been working for decades as a pro like me you still have to keep reproving yourself to be worthy of being in the industry.

The Epic courses are cool, the certificate are fine I guess, I would never hire or not hire someone based on if they had a degree or certificate even though I know people pay a lot of money for this.

The goal as a level designer is to create fun, putting all the parts together to make something someone else is going to want to play. Creating fun is part technical skill and part being gifted at creating experiences for others that they love.

Again good luck, as a side note and if I was you I would remove this thread from Job Offering section of the sub and post it in the seeking work section. The audience would be looking there not here for new talent on your well (over) documented journey.
