First time using Volumetric Fog, probably have like maybe a few hours of time with it so far as a whole. I’m running into this weird thing with local fog leaking through the walls of buildings and such? I have a system in place that fades fog in and out of buildings once entered with the Exponential Height Fog node that works decently well.
However the local fog I have in place helps the “fade in” not seem super drastic and hides some of the rendering in the distance to make that scene look dynamic and not “bad” per-say, the local fog does tend to leak into the walls?
I’ve tried a few things so far but it seems like it always leaks with the things I have tried at the moment.
You’ll see in the top picture I have the fog box a bit away from the wall of the building. To explain why that is, originally I had the box lined up with the wall at first, which is where I first noticed the leak in question.
In this case the second picture below shows said “leak”, so I thought maybe I had to move it away from the wall to possibly try and mitigate that leak a bit, but even though I had slightly moved the fog box away, it still was leaking through the wall as if I had the fog box right up to the wall in question.
It finally worked when I had the fog box even further away from where it was in the first picture.
However when I play tested the level, you can see the thick box wall in the middle of that room looking outward from a door that’s placed there. And looking outside the door to the left or the right, you can easily see no fog, and things that I don’t want the player to be seeing in such an easy way.
Now I have no understanding of Volumetric Fog outside of it “looks cool and spooky like some Silent Hill thing if messed with”, so I’m guaranteed that there’s something I’m missing on how it functions and the lot.
I guess my question is, how do I stop it from leaking? Haha.
