I’m not sure that there’s any more control available other than what we find in the IslandSettings but I’m wondering what is possible.
I have a BedWars map that I was initially sending players who join in progress to spectate. I’d love to keep it that way but there’s some issues I’m having with that:
-
In my experience it doesn’t seem that matchmaking finds any players before it sends a player into the match with the max 90 second countdown. In some cases having a larger matchmaking time limit in the lobby could be useful. Like Overwatch for example.
-
I can “ready up” with friends often and have half of them not make it into the game before the 90 second countdown finishes. (This is often because I already have the content loaded locally, on a second run everyone gets in without issue) (DL size: 28.09MB)
Now, if I let players join in progress the issues above are resolved but it generates new issues/questions:
-
How long does Join In Progress last? Could we limit this as creators?
-
In my Bed Wars variant, after ~5 minutes teams without players are removed. Their team selectors, spawners, and Plushie(bed) are deactivated/destroyed. At this point, if I couldn’t limit Join in Progress, I’d love to be able to now limit the max players so matchmaking is no longer trying to fill 4 teams of 4.
The big problem is lack of players initially, if the map is new and sparsely featured it’s very difficult to fill teams in the short amount of time required for matchmaking.
I’m making the jump to Join in Progress. Given the lack of players initially, I’m hoping this allows more people to get into a game an start playing. But is there anything else that I may be missing to better control the matchmaking experience?
