Hi all, let me walk you through some of our recent development and I’ll also be better about communicating these plans early and often! For ages, we have struggled to get lighting to look more consistent across all the platforms that support Fortnite, so we have been working on a few solutions…
Starting with Release-35.00, we rolled out a run-time cubemap capture solution that finally works across all platforms. Prior to 35.00, our high end platforms would take advantage of this tech, but lower end platforms still used static cubemaps that would activate at different times during the day/night cycle. Inevitably, these different approaches led to different visuals (color casts) across platforms which has frustrated a lot of creators, understandably so. What the new solutions mean, is that color casts will more closely reflect the visuals you see in the sky, and more importantly, this will match much closer across all platforms. I’ll include a few examples below…
This is not the end of the journey by any means, and we continue to work with BR and UE to improve visual consistency across platforms. So please stay tuned for more updates! And if you want me to go into more details, or maybe even cover things in a video or live stream please let us know!
