Lighting doesn't cast shadows :(

Hey,
I’m not sure what I’ve done… I’m pretty sure I haven’t tampered with the lighting but for some reason My map no longer has any shadows whether it be static meshes or terrain. All my lightmap UVs are set up correctly and I get no errors when I build the lighting Which also takes forever. Yesterday building the lighting took around 10 mins give or take and casts shadows.
Now when I build lighting it takes around an hour and doesn’t cast any shadows.

I have deleted the directional light and added a new one but still I get the same outcome.

Any body else had the issue before? Or is there anything I can do to sort this out?
If any other info is needed just let me know!

Thanks!

Is it the same when you play the game in “standalone” ? Check if you have probably enabled “unlit”

Yeah that was the first thing I checked. :stuck_out_tongue:
I’ve just added a new light and I have really blurry not dark shadows which says preview all over it so I’m just building it to see what happens. But still it shouldn’t take this long, yesterday it only took around 10 minutes on high lighting quality and today it takes forever on preview quality.

The only thing that could be in case of the long build time is that you dont have a lightmass importance volume in your level or you have changed your power settings of your pc (always put it to “high performance” -> in my case I get a pretty big increase of performance)

I do actually have a lightmass importance volume in my scene. But you are correct I did change my settings to balanced performance because I need to replace the thermal paste on the CPU… Thanks for reminding me I actually forgot about that! :stuck_out_tongue:

But changing the performance wouldn’t effect the shadows or lighting would it?

Normally no ^^ -> I forgot to ask what kind of lights you are using? (dynamic, static,…)

I’ve tried it with all dynamic, static and moveable. None of which cast shadows like the good old days… yesterday.

Hey, I don’t know what I did but I now have shadows! :S
now I must not change things I don’t fully understand!

:stuck_out_tongue:

The UE4 is full of…

So you just restarted the editor?

nope, I just completely redid the lighting and patiently waited for the lighting to rebuild.
Thermal compound has now been ordered. :stuck_out_tongue: Waiting for lighting to build is painful!

Hmm really strange. Now the same thing is happening to me :frowning: I need a wizard to fix it

check this … now it happens with me too , i dint find any solution for that , not a single topic on internet , and i even reinstalled UE but nothing worked for me , please if anyone can help then that would be great

-which version do you use

  1. have you already rebuild the light?
  2. set the light to another mode (moveable or static)
  3. check if you use the “epic” quality settings
  4. try it with a custom mesh
  5. delete the light and add a new one
  6. which engine version do you use?
