Lightbeam and fog sheets seem to mask out materials set to translucent?

I’d like to have it so the fog and lightbeams work with a picture on a plane in the background that needs to be able to change opacity as you get close to it (with a sphere masked pixel depth), but for some reason the UE4 lightbeams and fog don’t work if I set this material type in the back to translucent.

I tried the other settings, the closest being If I set it to additive but it makes the material too transparent

The fog sheet also doesn’t work at all if I set the fog sheet to anything except translucent
