Hello, I’m trying to pre-render a shot for a film and when the camera specially tilts (looks up or down), the lights flicker. Is there a recommended way to fix this?
Flicker that only shows up when the camera tilts is usually a view-dependent effect, so I’d look at these in Movie Render Queue rather than the viewport:
Auto exposure: in the Post Process Volume or the Cine Camera’s Post Process settings, set Exposure to Manual (or Min/Max EV100 to the same value). Tilting up or down changes what’s on screen, and eye adaptation reacts to it.
Lumen / screen-space effects: Lumen reflections, screen-space GI and SSR rely on the current screen and can pop when the view changes. In the MRQ settings add the Anti-Aliasing setting and raise Spatial/Temporal sample counts (e.g. 8 spatial, 1-2 temporal) and enable “Override Anti-Aliasing” with TAA/None; also add the Console Variables setting with r.Lumen.ScreenProbeGather.ScreenTraces 1 and a higher r.Lumen.ScreenProbeGather.FullResolutionJitterWidth if needed.
Virtual Shadow Maps/lights: if the flicker is on shadows, try a higher r.Shadow.Virtual.ResolutionLodBiasDirectional and make sure lights aren’t using distance culling or Cull Distance.
Streaming: add the “Game Overrides” and set Texture Streaming/Virtual Texture to full quality for the render, otherwise lower mips pop in as the camera looks up or down. Adding warm-up frames (Render Warm Up Count ~32) also helps.
If it flickers in the viewport but not in the rendered output, it was likely just real-time temporal history. Try toggling each item to isolate which one stops it.
