Level Crash

Hello, my Engine 5.6.1 keep crashing when entering in the same level. It seems there is a ambiant sound component that is corrupted or something. Here is the crash:

If someone knows what to do, I can’t edit the asset that seems to crash the level because I need to be editing the level.
Thank you for your time.

Hello there @playthegeek!

Checking through your log, this looks to be a memory leak during map load, with a crash tied to “UEditorEngine::Map_Load()”. This confirms the presence of a faulty or corrupted asset, most likely the ambient sound component you mentioned. And it’s not possible to access it directly due the level not opening. It’s quite a tricky scenario, but we can try the following methods for resolution:

  • First, the most simple solution, check for any autosaves or backups of the affected level, usually found at your project’s directory, under /Saved/Autosaves/Maps/ or /Saved/Backup/. If you find one, you can copy the map, replace your current one, and test opening the level again.

  • Next, use the Reference Viewer in UE, and locate references to audio assets, that could tie to the corrupted one. From there, you can delete suspected audio assets from Content Browser, then try loading the level again. It will prompt for missing references, but it could actually open without crashing.

  • A similar method would be to use the output log after a crash, and check for the last asset loaded. With that information, you can track down the path, and delete the affected element from the browser.

  • Another approach, is to work through a sub-level. To do so, create a blank level, then go to Window > Levels, add your affected level as a sub-level, then right click on it, and select “Make Current”. If it opens succesfully, you should be able to delete the problematic asset from here.

  • Finally, as a last resort, you can create a fresh level and migrate your assets, recreating the corrupted level into a new map. It will take some time, but it should resolve the problem.
